The Pyramids of Giza are the last surviving wonder of the ancient world, and visiting them is far simpler than the touts at the gate would have you believe. This guide explains exactly what you pay, what each ticket includes, and how to walk past the crowds without overpaying.

## Giza ticket prices in 2026

The Giza plateau uses a tiered system: a general entry ticket, then separate add-ons for going _inside_ the pyramids and for the surrounding sites. Foreigner prices are set in Egyptian pounds (EGP) and are revised regularly, so always confirm the current rate before you go.

Ticket

What it covers

General plateau entry

Access to the plateau and the exterior of all three pyramids and the Sphinx

Great Pyramid (Khufu) interior

Climb into the burial chamber of the largest pyramid

Khafre or Menkaure interior

A quieter, cheaper way to go inside a pyramid

Solar Boat Museum / extras

Add-on sites near Khufu

> Tip: a combined “Cairo Pass” can bundle Giza with most Cairo and Memphis sites over five consecutive days — worth it if you’re visiting several monuments.

## Opening hours

The plateau is generally open daily from early morning until late afternoon, with shorter hours during Ramadan. Arriving **at opening** is the single best decision you can make: cooler temperatures, soft light for photos, and a fraction of the crowds and hawkers you’ll meet by midday.

## Which “inside the pyramid” ticket is worth it?

Going inside is a tight, low-ceilinged climb up a wooden ramp — memorable, but there are no decorations or treasure inside, just bare stone. If you’re not claustrophobic and want the experience, the interiors of **Khafre or Menkaure** are far cheaper and far less crowded than Khufu, and the climb is broadly similar. Choose Khufu only if entering _the_ Great Pyramid specifically matters to you.

## How to skip the line and the hassle

- **Pre-book online** where possible, or use a reputable operator so you arrive with a guide who knows the gate process.
- **Go at opening** (or in the last two hours) to dodge tour-bus waves.
- **Agree every price first** — camel and horse rides are notorious for a low “start” price that balloons at the end. If you don’t want one, a firm “no, thank you” is enough.
- **Carry small cash** in EGP for tickets, tips (baksheesh) and the restroom.

## Getting there

Giza is about 40 minutes from central Cairo by taxi or ride-hailing app, longer in traffic. Many visitors combine the pyramids with the **Grand Egyptian Museum**, which sits nearby and holds the full Tutankhamun collection.

Plan your visit early, buy only the tickets you’ll actually use, and the Pyramids of Giza become exactly what they should be: effortless, and unforgettable.
